Paralelamente baila como artista invitado con el Royal Ballet de Londres, el Bolshoi de Moscú, el Kirov de Leningrado, Alla Scala de Milán, la Zarzuela de Madrid, el Royal Danish Ballet de Dinamarca, el Ballet de la Opera de Oslo, el Stuttgart Ballet de Alemania, el Ballet de la Opera de París, el del Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, el Nacional de México y el del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, en muchos casos con producciones especialmente preparadas para él y con algunas de las partenaires más notables como Natalia Makarova, Carla Fracci, Alessandra Ferri, Cinthya Gregory, Nina Ananiashvili y Noelle Pontois. Julio Bocca es miembro del Consejo Nacional de la Danza, Cid, París-Unesco y Embajador Cultural de las Ciudades del MERCOSUR y ha recibido los siguientes premios y distinciones: María Ruanova "Primus Inter Pares" (1986), "Dancer of the year" New York times (1987), "Caballero de la orden de San Martín de Tours"(1987) "Premio Gino Tanni a las Artes" y "Personalidad del año" (1990) este último otorgado en Francia junto a otras personalidades como la Madre Teresa de Calcuta, "Martín Fierro de la Televisión Argentina a la Mejor Actuación en Show Musical" (1991), "Premio King David" de la Casa Argentina en Jerusalén (1996) y "Premio Dance Magazine" (1998), Premio Barocco en Italia patrocinado por la cadena televisiva RAI. Desde entonces Julio Bocca dirige con exito el Ballet Argentino. His professional career began in 1982 as a Principal Dancer with the Fundación Teresa Carrreño de Venezuela and The Teatro Municipal de Río de Janeiro in Brazil. In 1985, he won the Gold Medal at the Fifth International Ballet Competition in Moscow. He joined American Ballet Theatre as Principal Dancer in 1986 and performed with them throughout 2006. He is a Guest Artist with Royal Ballet of London, Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg, Alla Scala de Milan, La Zarzuela de Madrid, Royal Danish Ballet of Denmark, Opera Ballet in Oslo, Stuttgart Ballet, Opera Ballet in Paris, Tokyo Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Ballet Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, Ballet Nacional de Mexico, Ballet de Teatro Municipal General San Martín and Ballet del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires where special works were created for him. He dances with some of the most important partners such as Nina Ananiashvili, Eleonora Cassano, Alessandra Ferri, Cecilia Figaredo, Carla Fracci, Cynthia Gregory, Cynthia Harvey, Paloma Herrera, Susan Jaffe, Julie Kent, Natalia Makarova, Amanda McKerrow, Noelle Pontois, Raquel Rossetti, Cheryl Yeager. He is invited to dance at the opening of the Opera Theatre of Helsinki, he performs in Poland, the Philippines, Greece and Japan and he participates in the most important Summer Festivals in Europe and the annual Ballet Festival in La Havana, Cuba. In 1990, The Teatro Colón appoints him International Representative. The same year he founds his own company “Ballet Argentino” and tours throughout the world. Prima Ballerina Eleonora Cassano joins them in some of the tours. Ballet Argentino is the first foreign company ever to perform at the Hermitage Palace in St. Petersburg. In Argentina, he performs in outdoors venues and football stadiums gathering thousands of people. He also performs at Luna Park –a 5000 venue capacity- over 140 times and gives the premiere of most of his productions including “Birdy” byJean Pierre Aviotte; “Kuarahy” by Julio Lopez, “La Consagración del Tango” by Ana María Stekelman and “Bocca Rock Nacional”. He inaugurates his own Dance studio and takes over Ballet Argentino direction in 1997. The following year he found Musical Theater School with choreographer and Director Ricky Pashkus. In 1999 he performs with Ballet Argentino in Israel, Greece, Bangkok and Singapore. These shows in Singapore are part of the Festival commemorating the Sixth Anniversary of the King of Thailand. His dancing was the show that represented Argentina during the celebrations for Millennium Day that took place on December 31st, 1999 and January 1st, 2000, marking the beginning of the new millennium in Ushuaia. The celebration was broadcasted simultaneously all over the world through over 60 networks. In February 2000 he is engaged to perform Fosse and tours US with Ballet Argentino including their third run at City Center theater in New York. In 2001 he premieres Bocca Tango in Teatro Maipo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina by Ana Maria Stekelman featuring live orchestra and singers. In January 2002 Julio Bocca creates a ballet for the Opera Henry VIII by Camille Saint-Saens as part of homage to Mrs. Montserrat Caballé in Teatro Liceo in Barcelona. Mrs. Caballé and Mr. Bocca performed at the show. In February of that same year, Julio Bocca and Ballet Argentino performs at the Peacock Theatre in London. In 2005, he dances Romeo and Juliet for the last time with Alessandra Ferri and American Ballet Theatre. He premieres Bocca Tango in Europe –Teatro Sistina in Rome- to sold out performances. The tour then includes Barcelona and Madrid with Guest Singer Paloma San Basilio for “Balada para un loco” by Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer; Cyprus and Lyon are the next stops in the successful tour. Julio Bocca and Ballet Argentino perform at Teatro Opera in October 2003 and premieres works such as “The River” by Alvin Ailey, “Repercusiones” and “Macbeth” by Ana María Stekelman and “Una vez un baúl” a clown solo specially created for him by Actor and Director Claudio Gallardou. Julio Bocca proves his drama abilities with this solo. In January 2004 Julio performed in China, at the Great People’s Hall with Rosana Perez on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the First International ballet Festival for the 100th anniversary of the birth of George Balanchine. 2004 is also the year for the premiere of The Man in the Red Tie, script by Elio Marchi based on the novel by Natalia Kohen and choreographed by Ana María Stekelman and tours in Europe and US. In April 2004, he participates at the Benois de la Danse Gala which gathers international artists who were awarded the Benois de la Danse Prize. In February 2005, Julio Bocca performs “A Russian Hamlet” (Beethoven and Mahler) as a Guest Artist of the Eifman Ballet of Saint Petersburg at the Mariinksy Theater. They perform the same ballet in Luna Park Stadium of Buenos Aires in May 2005. He also perfoms with Tamara Rojo in Teatro Albeniz in Madrid in Januay 2006 and tours Bocca Tango in US. After 20 years as Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre, Julio Bocca dances his farewell performance on June 22 2006 playing “Des Grieux” in MacMillan´s “Manon” with Alessandra Ferri. The closing of the Argentinean season in 2006 consists of a national tour and the worldwide premiere of “Adios Hermano Cruel”, full length ballet written by Elio Marchi which is inspired on the movie and free version of the play “Tis a Pitti She´s a whore” by John Ford in 1633. Music is set to Lito Vitale and choreography by Ana María Stekelman. Julio Bocca also stages “Manon” in Buenos Aires with Alessandra Ferri and Ballet de Santiago. His prizes and nominations include: Maria Ruanova “Primus Inter Pares” (1986); “Dancer of the Year” New York Times (1987); Caballero de la Orden San Martín de Tours (1987); “Gino Tani Awards to the Arts”; Personality of the Year (1990) granted in France together with other celebrities such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta; Barocco sponsored by RAI; Martin Fierro for Best Performance in Television (1991); Dance Magazine (1992); Benois de la Danse (Bolshoi Theatre 1992); King Davis Award from the Argentine House of Jerusalem (1996), Celebrity of the year Gold Prize Clarin Newspaper(2006); Hispanic American Max Award for the Performing Arts (2007) granted by SGAE in Bilbao, Spain; Homage for his career and collaboration to ballet world in “Equinoccio Cultural 2008” at the Embassy of Spain in Buenos Aires; Gold Medal on the Arts by Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts for his achievements and dedication to cultural exchange between Argentina and The United States of America (2008); Honor Certificate in Ballet by Counssil International de la Danse – UNESCO- for his career (2008); Maria Guerrero for his career (2008); Homage by American Ballet Theatre during Latin Night (2008) He dances his farewell on December 22 2007. In 2008 Julio Bocca participates in the “Earth Day Special” carried out by National Geographic. Julio Bocca is the Cultural Ambassador for the Mercosur and Member of the International Dance Council, CID Paris – Unesco- and participates in the Jury at the Benois de la Danse Prize 2008 Edition and Rome Prize in Italy. |
